The Rising Star session featuredpresentations from six outstanding young researchers.The poster presentation was held in the open corridorin the evening for the first three days. There were manyposter presenters in each category. The posters under eachcategory were grouped and presented at the same area. Idid my poster presentation on the first day. I was glad totalk about my research with many researchers. I got usefulcomments and suggestions for progressing my work. I alsovisited many posters and talked with the presenters about theirposters and researches. I got the opportunity to know aboutdifferent proteins and their functions. One of the surprisingmethods of protein crystallization I saw in the conference wascrystallization without precipitant and not using any traditionalcrystallization method. According to that researcher, theprotein complex did not crystallize when screened with manycommercial crystallization kits but crystallized soon when thetwo proteins solutions were mixed for complex formation.The conference was also an opportunity to know otherresearchers. During the break-times, I could talk with severalrenowned personals in the field of structural biology. Onthe second day of the conference, I went to Merlion Parkwith some Japanese Professors and their students. As I wasonly the participant from our lab, I was happy to get somecompany and invitation to the dinner.The participation in AsCA2019 was a good and memorableexperience. For participation in AsCA2019, I received atravel grant from the Crystallographic Society of Japan.I am very grateful to CrSJ for providing such a valuableopportunity.AsCA2019に参加して横浜市立大学理学部鈴木凌筆者は日本結晶学会2019年度国際学会参加助成をいただき，2019年12月17日から20日にかけてシンガポール国立大学で開催されました第16回アジア結晶学会2019（AsCA2019）に参加いたしました．AsCAに参加したのは今回が初めてで，アジアにおける結晶学に関する研究を把握することができました．会場となったシンガポール国立大学のUTownはその名のとおり大学内に1つの街ができ上がったような素晴らしいキャンパスです．学会としてはUTownにある一部のホール周辺を使用した形でした．口頭発表の会場は冷房設備が効いており快適であったものの，ポスター会場は半屋外と言える場所でした．12月といえどもシンガポールは年中30℃前後の気温と言われ，乾期と雨期で季節が分けられているようです．学会期間の12月は雨期真っ只中で，初日のポスター会場は参加者が集まるとそれはもうサウナのような状況でした．初日にそのような状況になってしまったため，2日目以降は扇風機などの暑さ対策がとられ，多少は快適になりました．筆者はこのたびRising Star Awardをいただくことができ，最終日の12月20日午後に行われたRising StarSymposiumにて口頭発表を行いました．発表内容はタンパク質結晶における動力学的回折の観測に関する研究です．AsCA2019においてRising Star Awardを受賞したのは6名で，発表や議論の時間が多少延びても打ち切られることはなく，各発表時間は20～30分ほどであったかと思います．私は発表順が最後で，ほかの発表者の素晴らしいプレゼンテーションを聴きながらも，気持ち半分は緊張しておりました．しかし，いざ発表が始まると，リラックスして発表することができました．最後の発表でありながらも非常に多くの質問やコメントをいただけたこと，発表後も興味をもっていただいたさまざまな方と議論できたことが一番印象に残っております．また，本報告の記述の時間順が逆転してしまいますが，学会2日目に筆者は同一の内容のポスター発表も行わせていただきました．発表に至った理由は完全に私の120日本結晶学会誌第62巻第2号（2020）
