日本結晶学会誌Vol62No2

AsCA2019会議参加記なったのを覚えている．今回のAsCA2019参加にあたり，日本結晶学会2019年度国際会議参加助成のご支援を賜った．私自身の研究発表とディスカッション，そして，日本国内外の研究者の最先端の研究発表を聞くことによって，結晶学の重要性を改めて知る良い機会になった．特に，新規物質の物性・機能の理解，設計やその応用研究には結晶学を深く知る必要があり，私自身の研究生活のモチベーションを高めるものとなった．国際会議への参加は今回が初めてであったが，今後もより優れた成果を報告できるよう精進したいと思う．このような大変貴重な経験ができたこと，またそのご支援に心より感謝申し上げます．図2フラッシュプレゼンテーションの様子解析に関する研究はまだまだ発展段階であると感じた．今回，初めての実施となったフラッシュプレゼンテーションはとても難しい印象を受けた．1枚のスライドを使い3分間で自身の研究を紹介するのは，どの参加者も苦戦しているように見えた．今後も同様のセッションが設けられるのであれば，私も参加してみたいと思う．私はポスターセッションのChemical CrystallographyのテーマでMOF/PCPの粉末回折を利用した精密結晶構造解析に関する研究を報告した．同様の研究をしている方だけでなく，MOF/PCPを扱ったことのない方々ともディスカッションを交わした．私が取り組んでいるMOF/PCPの粉末回折を利用した結晶構造解析は世界的にもあまり行われていない研究である．一般に解析が困難とされているMOF/PCPの粉末結晶構造解析の技術に驚かれることもあった．一方で，今回報告した結果は，結晶構造解析の結果から考察したものであったが，本当に構造解析の結果だけで断定していいのかという意見もあった．私は粉末回折パターンの変化からゲスト分子の吸着を確認している．また，MEM/Rietveld解析から科学的矛盾がなく信頼度の高いモデルが得られたことから，今回の報告に至ったわけであるが，確かにMOF/PCPの研究はRamanスペクトルやNMRなどさまざまな実験結果を総合して議論さているものが多い．私自身の研究においても，回折実験だけでなく，多角的な調査が必要であると感じた．英語での議論には苦労したが，今回のポスター発表では数多くの有益な意見をいただき，非常に良い経験であった．最後に，私はシンガポール渡航は初めてであり，特に食事に不安を抱いていた．懸念どおり，あまり口に合う食事はなく，日に日に日本食を食べたいと思うように日本結晶学会誌第62巻第2号（2020）Participation in the 16 th AsCA2019, SingaporeRakesh MAHARJANThe 16 th Conference of the Asian CrystallographicAssociation（AsCA）was held from 17-20 December 2019in Singapore in association with the National University ofSingapore, Singapore National Institute of Chemistry, andThe Chapter of Singapore Crystallographers. The conferencetook place at UTown, at the National University of Singapore.The city of Singapore is vibrant and lively. However, theconference venue was calm being situated in a suburban area.It was my first time going to a conference outside Japan. Ihad no idea how it would be in Singapore when I registeredfor the conference. When I arrived there, the weather was hotand humid, which was different compared to the weather inJapan during December.The conference was attended by many researchers fromdifferent Asian and Oceanian countries. There were also afew participants from Europe and America. The openingceremony of the conference was followed by the firstplenary lecture. The first plenary lecture titled“MicrobialInvasion and Host Defense”was presented by Myung HeeKim from Korea. A total of three plenary lectures and sixkeynote lectures were held at the conference during the fourdays. Flash presentation sessions for students were held onthe first day of the conference. Each flash presenters wereallowed 3 minutes to describe their works using a singlepresentation slide. I worked hard for preparing the slide forflash presentation.From the second day, microsymposium was held in threeparallel sessions. The structural biology sessions were dividedinto eight microsymposium, focused on crystal structuresof different proteins for purposes such as drug developmentand understanding biological reaction mechanisms.
