The applications support generic highpressurediffraction experiments with materials that are notsuffering from relatively lower incident flux compared to thatfrom the insertion device source.5.16-BM-B:White-beam diffraction andradiography beamline16-BM-B beamline is a white X-ray beamline applyingLaue X-ray diffraction and energy dispersive X-ray diffraction(EDXD)techniques for in-situ high-pressure experiments.Thetwotechniquesareoperatedontwoseparatetables;thewhite-Laue table is equipped with 2(v)×2(h)μm 2 focusingKB-mirrors, high-precision stages capable of 2D scanningLaue diffraction microscopy, 17)and a versatile detectormount accepting Perkin-Elmer detector at various anglesand distances(Fig.5a)18); the EDXD table is exclusivelyfor portable large-volume press applications(e.g., Paris-Edinburgh Cell, or PEC)featured with adjustable diffractedbeam collimators and Ge solid-state detector on 2θrotationarm(Fig.5b)19)utilizing both parallel and vertically-focusedincident beams. The parallel white beam is useful for X-rayradiography, especially, for the samples mounted in PEC,having substantially larger diameter(0.1~2.0 mm)in beamdirection compared to those in a DAC(typically 10~100μm). The parallel-beam radiography is critically importantto enable comprehensive study of liquids under highpressureand high-temperature conditions, combining liquidstructure, ultrasonic velocity(elastic moduli measurement),and viscosity measurement in PEC. 20)Recently, the PECapplications have been extended to extreme conditionsnear Earth’s core-mantle boundary using double-stagecompression technique. 21),22)6.Concluding RemarksHPCAT continues to strive toward:development ofcutting-edge synchrotron based high pressure experimentalprobes, innovation of new high-pressure capabilities, and166日本結晶学会誌第61巻第3号(2019)
